Astana Motors to Build EV Charging Stations for New Energy Vehicles in Kazakhstan
Astana Motors and TELD New Energy Co., Ltd. (China) signed a distribution agreement to appoint Astana Motors as the authorized distributor of electric equipment in Kazakhstan and operator of an electric charging network for new energy vehicles.
The signing ceremony took place yesterday in Beijing during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to China within the framework of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation under the theme “Green Development”. It celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road initiative launched by Mr. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CCP Central Committee.
At the ceremony, the distribution agreement was signed by the parties’ representatives — Ms. Tian Hua, Deputy General Manager of TELD New Energy Co., Ltd., and Akylbek Anarbaev, Managing Director for Business Development of Astana Motors.
Ms. Tian Hua notes that today TELD has a market share of 33% in China, covering 360 cities, where more than 20,000 EV charging stations and 450,000 charging terminals are available.
“TELD has extensive analytical and engineering data in the field of charging and industrial Internet, and we welcome Astana Motors’ commitment to develop the charging infrastructure in Kazakhstan. TELD will supply its partner Astana Motors with high-tech equipment for an electric charging network in accordance with quality standards, transfer expertise, and also help strengthen relations and expand areas of cooperation between the countries,” says Deputy General Director of TELD.
Established in 2014, TELD is the founder and developer of global standards for electric vehicle charging network technology and ranks among the Top 100 Chinese Unicorns. TELD is today’s leader in charging infrastructure in terms of the number of installed chargers, charging efficiency, technology and operating system. The company’s R&D team includes over 1,000 employees. TELD benefits from using retired EV batteries to store energy for charging stations, which resolves disposal issues.
Globally, the availability of public charging stations is crucial for people to decide on purchasing electric vehicles. Access to fast charging is a key point driving the development of the new energy vehicle market.
“Our goal is, through the development of the electric vehicle charging infrastructure, to make Kazakhstan transition to new energy vehicles to improve the environmental situation; provide Kazakhstan’s automotive market with high-tech products and high-quality services meeting TELD standards; create advanced jobs for Kazakhstan people in the field of energy and IT technologies,” says Beknur Nesipbaev, CEO of Astana Motors.
The electric charging network is scheduled to be launched in 2024. In collaboration with Satbayev University, Astana Motors is currently conducting R&D to arrange the new energy vehicle infrastructure at a professional level, leveraging the expertise of TELD, China’s leader in electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Certification experts in the Kazakhstan Automobile Union are also formulating proposals to develop the regulatory framework for arranging the charging infrastructure in Kazakhstan. The proposals will be submitted to the Government for consideration.
“Protecting the environment is the global goal of the world community. The Kazakhstan Automobile Union represents the interests of consumers and businesses, so our experts contribute to arranging the NEV infrastructure in Kazakhstan. We are convinced that with the development of the electric charging network in all regions, streamlining of supplies and provision of a high level of service in authorized dealerships, people in Kazakhstan will increasingly switch to new energy vehicles,” says Erbol Seypilov, representative of the Association of Auto Experts and Auditors in the Kazakhstan Automobile Union.
Astana Motors plans to launch its electric charging stations in Almaty, Astana and Shymkent in 2024. The company plans to attract small- and medium-size enterprises to further develop the electric charging network throughout Kazakhstan.
“As an authorized distributor of electric equipment and operator of the electric charging network, Astana Motors is open to cooperation with domestic entrepreneurs interested in developing in this direction. We are ready to share TELD’s advanced technologies and our own business expertise,” Beknur Nesipbaev, CEO of Astana Motors, notes.
In August 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved a roadmap for building electric vehicle infrastructure in major local cities by 2029. The project includes regulatory and technical requirements for the design and development of infrastructure, the production of electric vehicle charging equipment in Kazakhstan, as well as determination of the need for electric vehicle charging stations and their installation locations.
