Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan (AMMKZ) is the world’s first multi-brand plant to combine the production of three leading Chinese automotive brands at a single facility: Chery, Changan, and Great Wall Motor (including the Haval and Tank brands).

Located in the Almaty Industrial Zone, the plant occupies a 309,000 sq. m site, featuring a 211,000 sq. m production complex.

The plant has an annual production capacity of up to 120,000 vehicles. Manufacturing is based on the semi-knock-down (SKD) method and involves key technological stages: welding, painting, and assembly. Upon reaching full design capacity, the plant will provide employment for 3600 people.

The equipment for the plant was provided by China’s Automotive Engineering Corporation (AEC), a world leader in automotive manufacturing that counts plants of BMW, Hyundai, Toyota, Jaguar, Land Rover, BYD, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen among its clients. Automotive Engineering Corporation has implemented over 30,000 projects and equipped approximately 80 % of plants worldwide.

The AMMKZ site features robotic and automated workshops for welding, painting, and assembly, component and finished vehicle warehouses, an automated body distribution warehouse, a weigh station, a test track, paint and coating storage facilities, utility networks, and an administrative and amenity building. The manufacturing line is equipped with 54 industrial robots:

  • the welding shop employs 17 Japanese Fanuc robots, which ensure high-precision joining of body components;
  • the painting shop features 34 robots and atomizers from ABB (Sweden–Switzerland), including a cathophoresis line with 20 tanks for anti-corrosion treatment;
  • in the assembly shop, 3 Fanuc robots perform automated adhesive application on glass components following a preset program.

Investments in the project exceeded 202 billion tenge. Of these, 37 % were financed by Astana Motors, and 63 % from borrowed repayable funds raised through credit instruments from the Development Bank of Kazakhstan and the Industrial Development Fund at a rate of 9 % per annum for a period of 15 years.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Akimat of Almaty.

The enterprise is 100 % owned by Astana Motors and will make cars under license agreements.
