The GWM POER Launched in Kazakhstan: A Test Drive to Take Care of the Environment
The authorized importer of Great Wall Motor (GWM) in Kazakhstan with the HAVAL, TANK, and GWM brands, which is part of Astana Motors, hosted an environmental cleanup day last weekend. The event was held in cooperation with the public foundation GreenUp at the Turgen Gorge located in the Ile-Alatau National Park in the Almaty region.

The environmental cleanup in the most picturesque area of Kazakhstan was attended by about 110 people, including journalists, influencers, eco-activists, and employees of the distribution department and Almaty dealerships with their families. To get to the location of the event, a number of participants used six GWM pickups: the GWM Poer, the Wingle 7, and the King Kong Poer.
The Turgen Gorge is a picturesque place with waterfalls and vibrant flora and fauna, which has preserved its natural beauty. In the warm season, it draws thousands of tourists, and is increasingly faced with the consequences of human presence – garbage and pollution. Provided with gloves and garbage bags, the participants took several hours to clean the area from bottles, broken glass, used bags, plastic, paper, and other household waste.

“GWM has always supported environmental initiatives. Today, we decided to hold an environmental event together with our friends from GreenUp to make our contribution to nature protection and raise public awareness of environmental pollution issues. With the holiday season in full swing, a lot of people visit the Turgen Gorge with their families and friends to enjoy its cool areas, beautiful views, and clean air. But they leave garbage behind and forget that our natural heritage must be protected. We will be glad to create an example for others to follow,” said Eduard Kuznetsov, Distribution Director at Haval Motor Kazakhstan.
The practical GWM Poer, Wingle 7, and King Kong Poer pickups with off-road capabilities became reliable helpers at the cleanup event. They were loaded with hundreds of bags of pre-sorted garbage. The so-called “clean” waste (plastic, polyethylene, etc.) was taken to special collection points for recycling, and the rest of the waste (food waste, used paper towels, etc.) was removed for disposal.

Notably, all the pickups offer a spacious cargo compartment, and some feature a protective coating and a retractable step. All the models have a good load capacity and can carry up to 975 kg, which is almost a ton of cargo. So transporting garbage from the cleanup location was no problem.
The participants of the environmental cleanup could also test the new GWM Poer model, which expanded the brand’s model line and strengthened its position in the body-on-frame pickup class.

“I made a good contribution at the cleanup event. I took part in the environmental campaign, making our beautiful nature reserve area a bit cleaner. I also tested the GWM Poer on the road. It is ideal on the highway. It runs well off-road. It is very agile and confident in the mountains. I would highly recommend the car to outdoor enthusiasts,” said blogger Kuatbek Dzhonelbaev.
The distributor describes the new product as suited not only for people fond of a mobile and healthy lifestyle but also for businesses, especially from the agricultural, construction, mining, and other sectors. The GWM Poer is a full-size, body-on-frame pickup with a wheelbase of 3230 mm. Its length is 5416 mm, width – 1947 mm, and height – 1884 mm. It can cope with any challenges.

The pickup has a comfortable interior trimmed with inserts in a brown shade. The steering wheel is heated and adjustable for reach and height, providing comfortable control. The interior is fitted with a digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch multimedia display. The center console features driving mode selector, physical control buttons, cup holders, and an armrest with a storage box. The front seats are ventilated, and the rear seats can be divided in the center with a convenient armrest. There are two USB ports and a deflector for the climate control system.
In addition, the pickup is equipped with an intelligent safety system with a wide functionality that provides the driver with maximum control over the car and gives confidence on the road, especially on long trips. The car has adaptive cruise control, traffic jam and reversing assistants, lane keeping assistance, road sign recognition, open door warning, an automatic emergency braking system, etc. There is also Smart Dodge, hill start and hill descent assist, and blind spot monitoring. The car comes with six airbags.

The GWM Poer is powered by a new 218 hp 2-liter turbo charged engine coupled with an 8-speed automatic ZF transmission with manual shifting capability. The car has a four-wheel drive (TOD) system. The maximum torque is 380 Nm in the range from 1800 to 3600 rpm. This ensures a smooth ride and fast acceleration when needed. The pickup can reach speeds of up to 165 km/h. The fuel consumption is 10.6 liters per 100 km. The car can ford streams up to 500 mm deep.
The GWM Poer is available in Kazakhstan in five colors: gray, black, white, red, and blue. Its price starts from 18,790,000 tenge. The new Poer has become the third model in its class offered in Kazakhstan.

By the end of 2025, several pickup models will be manufactured in Almaty. The production of HAVAL and TANK cars will also be launched at the Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan multi-brand plant, which is nearing the end of construction.
