SECRETS OF SAFE DRIVING OR SUBARU AND BORODIN DRIVING ACADEMY
Last weekend, a two-day driving course “Subaru and Borodin Driving Academy” was held at Subaru Motor Almaty. “We turn extreme driving into safe driving” was a topic of the course.
The special course for everyone who wanted to get theoretical and practical knowledge was conducted by Vladimir Borodin, Vice President of Motor Sports Federation of RK, a founder of an extreme driving school, a chief pilot of Steppe Wolves (a team of Astana Motors), a multiple champion of RK in automobile cross-country race and rally.
For two days, 45 people studied peculiarities of driving in rainy weather that is the most dangerous and complicated driving for both a driver and a car. The rules of conduct to avoid accidents due to poor visibility were also considered. The participants answered the questions: “What to do if you are “blinded” by the on-coming car?”, “How to drive a car with systems and options?”. The topic of extreme driving with Subaru cars was also considered.
Onsite courses for all registered participants took place in the Mobilex RT special track at the exit road of Almaty. Testing was held in different conditions. Everyone had an opportunity to learn how to overcome different types of obstacles. The trainees tested the second generation Subaru XV and upgraded Subaru Outback cars.
A stylish and high-tech Subaru Outback crossover got a more robust exterior due to a new radiator grill, front bumper, and headlights. Now the upgraded Outback in its premium configuration has a sunroof. For the convenience of a driver, an Advanced Premium Package is available, including an automatic headlight range control system, a detection system of obstacles behind a car, front and side cameras. Besides, the Subaru Outback in the Premium configuration is equipped with an original EyeSight driver assistance system, which has six main functions: adaptive cruise control, pre-crash braking, lane deviation warning, yaw motion warning in the lane, a warning about a car ahead, and pre-crash throttle control. The restyled Outback model features improved noise reduction, retuned suspension, and advanced electric power steering. The model has an 8-inch touch-screen display and an upgraded 3rd generation Subaru StarLink multimedia system.
“The participants were surprised with the fact they were able to do more than they had thought before. Many participants noted that they had improved their skills. It is important to bear in mind that no matter what electronics is, a human factor is very important. When they drive a modern car, as they say, “stuffed” with all systems, it is necessary to be able to cope with driving under any conditions. That is why such courses are needed,” said Vladimir Borodin after a training session with the participants.
The representative of the Sumitomo Corporation (Japan), Ms. Asato Takagi, who also took part in the driving courses, noted that she was very impressed with the test drive and was grateful for participation in this kind of event. According to her, she was glad to meet not only a team of Subaru customers in Kazakhstan, but also feel our attitude to them through such driving courses.
As Dias Sandybayev, a participant of the courses and an owner of Subaru Outback, noted, “From time to time everyone gets into extreme situations, and it is very important to understand how we will behave in extreme situations, and how our car will behave. This is a very useful experience.”
The course program was designed in such a way that both beginners and professional drivers could learn new driving techniques, acquire the skills of efficient driving, and get positive emotions. According to the participants, it was better to try once than to hear many times, because after testing cars on a specially prepared track, off-road and skidding, they got acquainted with various smart systems and advantages, and also checked the passive safety of Subaru cars.
It should be noted Astana Motors conducts similar courses on a regular basis. A month ago, these courses were held in Astana. The next test drive will be arranged on June 24, 2018.
