ASTANA MOTORS RESUMES PRODUCTION OF HYUNDAI ACCENT CARS
The popular model has returned to the production line at the Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan automobile plant. Hyundai’s official distributor in Kazakhstan, which is part of Astana Motors, reached an agreement with several countries for the supply of Hyundai Accent CKD components to Almaty.
In August 2022, Hyundai’s distributor in Kazakhstan adjusted its plan for the production of Hyundai Accent cars. The plant in Almaty had difficulties with the supply of components due to the geopolitical situation, which worsened the semiconductor and logistical crisis.
As the Hyundai Accent is popular among Kazakhstanis, the distributor looked for other channels to supply components for the production of this model.
The distributor had successful negotiations to supply components for the Hyundai Accent from Hyundai factories in China, India, Korea, and Russia.
Last November, Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan received components and started production of the Hyundai Accent. Cars from the pilot batch are already delivered to domestic dealers.
“Despite the problems in the global market such as logistics disruption, the semiconductor crisis, and the geopolitical situation, Hyundai’s popularity is growing. We sold 25,760 cars in Kazakhstan in 11 months of 2022, up 27% year on year (20,328 units in 2021). We are increasing our production volumes and expanding the model range of manufactured cars, while also dealing with challenges, and we can see our progress. We hope for long-term cooperation with new suppliers and are planning a gradual increase in Hyundai Accent production volumes as all component supply processes get back on track,” said Denis Kolomatsky, Director of Hyundai Official Distribution in Kazakhstan.
At present, the Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan plant in the Almaty Industrial Zone produces nine Hyundai models, including the Tucson, Accent, Sonata, Elantra, Santa Fe, Palisade, Staria, i30, and Bayon.
