Sales of Kazakhstan-Built JAECOO J5 and J7 PHEV Begin

The official OMODA and JAECOO distributor, part of Astana Motors, has announced pricing for two new JAECOO models in Kazakhstan. The JAECOO J5 compact crossover is priced at KZT 9,490,000, while the JAECOO J7 PHEV plug-in hybrid is priced at KZT 12,790,000. Both models are offered in their top specifications. The vehicles are covered by a 5-year or 150,000-km warranty, whichever comes first.

Both models are manufactured at the Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan multi-brand plant in Almaty and have received Vehicle Type Approval (VTA). With the launch of the J7 PHEV, the plant continues to expand its hybrid vehicle manufacturing capabilities. Its infrastructure has been adapted for hybrid vehicle production, quality control procedures have been enhanced, and specialists have been trained to work with high-voltage components.

“Announcing the prices of the JAECOO J5 and J7 PHEV marks an important milestone in the launch of our new models in Kazakhstan. Our goal was to create a competitive offering for the market by combining a modern product, local manufacturing and attractive pricing. JAECOO J5

The JAECOO J5 is the most compact crossover in the brand’s line-up, combining distinctive design with the practicality of an urban vehicle. Measuring 4,380 mm in length and with a 2,620-mm wheelbase, it is well suited to everyday driving, from daily commutes to family trips at the weekend.

The model is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 147 hp, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (6DCT).

In Kazakhstan, the JAECOO J5 is offered in the Luxury specification. The driver has an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, while a vertically oriented 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display takes centre stage in the cabin. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration allows occupants to access familiar smartphone apps through the vehicle’s infotainment system.

Dual-zone climate control allows the driver and front passenger to set their preferred temperatures independently, while heated front seats and a heated steering wheel provide additional comfort in cold weather. Everyday convenience features include a USB-C port with fast charging and a power tailgate.

Special attention has also been given to the needs of pet owners. The cabin features easy-to-clean, scratch-resistant materials, a multi-stage air purification system and climate control designed to make journeys more comfortable for both occupants and their pets. The interior materials have received international TÜV pet-friendly certification. JAECOO positions the J5 as a crossover designed with particular attention to travelling with pets.

The JAECOO J7 PHEV combines the benefits of electric driving with the flexibility of a petrol-powered crossover. It offers an all-electric range of up to 91 km, while its total driving range exceeds 1,200 km, depending on the applicable test cycle. This allows drivers to use electric power for everyday urban journeys while retaining the range needed for longer trips.

At the heart of the model is JAECOO’s Super Hybrid System (SHS), which combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 143 hp, an electric motor and a 1DHT hybrid transmission. The system delivers a combined output of up to 347 hp and maximum torque of 525 Nm. It automatically manages the operation of the petrol engine and electric motor according to driving conditions.

The J7 PHEV is equipped with an 18.3-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with an IP68 protection rating. The Guardian Battery Management System (BMS) continuously monitors key battery operating parameters. DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes. The vehicle can also be charged from a standard 220–230 V household power supply.

The JAECOO J7 PHEV was awarded the maximum five-star Euro NCAP safety rating in 2025.
The high-voltage battery is covered by an 8-year or 160,000-km warranty, whichever comes first.
