BYD’s share of the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) segment reached 76% of new-energy vehicles sold in Kazakhstan last year. According to data from the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), in 2025 official BYD dealers sold 3,245 electric vehicles and hybrids, with a 52% / 48% split, respectively. This is the highest sales result for eco-friendly transport in the republic.
“BYD is the global champion in NEV sales. It is an honor for us to represent a global leader, and customer loyalty is our highest value. We are proud of our results in the local market: we account for three-quarters of total eco-friendly vehicle sales. This is a significant lead, confirming the product’s value and the brand’s recognition in the country. Together with our official dealers, we have had a more than successful first year of operation, investing all our efforts, experience, and resources in developing and building an impeccable reputation for BYD in the region,” said Anton Kushch, BYD Distribution Director in Kazakhstan.
BYD is a driving force behind technological progress and one of the leaders in China’s industrial sector. The company has a strong R&D and manufacturing base and is independent of external component supplies. In 2025, BYD allocated more than $6 billion to R&D. In total, the company’s investment in research and development has exceeded RMB 220 billion, or approximately $31.7 billion.
BYD’s global recognition stems from its proprietary Blade Battery, recognized by international experts as the safest and most durable. Media representatives saw this for themselves at a meeting with the BYD Kazakhstan distributor, which, together with the BYD Central Asia headquarters, organized a demonstration of BYD Blade Battery testing. The nail penetration test, in which a nail is driven into a battery cell, took place last weekend in Almaty. The puncture simulates a situation in which the battery is damaged, such as in a serious road accident. Such damage causes conventional NCM batteries, which contain nickel, cobalt, and manganese, to explode and consequently catch fire. During the nail test, the BYD Blade Battery shows no reaction due to its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry and its deformation-resistant structure, which limits heat propagation and ensures high thermal stability.

Safety, reliability, innovation, and high quality are the key factors behind BYD’s global success. Over its history, the company has produced 15 million vehicles. Based on 2025 sales results, BYD broke its own records for NEV sales in export markets, selling more than one million eco-friendly vehicles outside China.
“We understand that the brand’s progress in the market intensifies competition, and we intend to retain our leadership in the region. Our confidence in success today and in the future comes from BYD’s indisputable advantages: the safe Blade Battery, innovative DM-i plug-in hybrid technology, the proprietary BYD APP for remote control of vehicle functions, the V2L system that turns the car into a mobile power station, and other resources. For our part, we will continue to develop the dealer network in Kazakhstan, refresh the model line-up, provide service to BYD standards, and raise the profile of eco-friendly transport in the region,” emphasized Anton Kushch.

At a media meeting in Almaty, it was also announced that in 2026, the BYD lineup for Kazakhstan would be joined by the BYD SEAL 6 hybrid sedan and the BYD ATTO 8 hybrid crossover. Furthermore, according to the distributor, this year there are plans to launch BYD’s sub-brand, DENZA, in the local market, which was founded jointly with Mercedes-Benz Group in 2010.
Today, official BYD dealers in Kazakhstan offer six models, five of which rank among the most popular NEV models in the country based on 2025 sales. These include the BYD SONG PLUS DM-i hybrid crossover, the BYD YUAN UP and BYD SONG PLUS EV electric crossovers, as well as the BYD SEALION 7 and the luxury electric sedan BYD HAN. The sixth model, the BYD CHAZOR, joined the lineup last December.
The official BYD dealer network currently comprises 20 centers with service according to BYD standards, qualified technical specialists, and warehouses for original spare parts. As a reminder, Astana Motors is the distributor and dealer of the brand in Kazakhstan and also has the largest BYD dealer network in Uzbekistan.

In addition, Astana Motors is developing a network of EV charging stations; currently, MyCharge charging stations operate in nine cities of Kazakhstan. In 2026, the company will continue its expansion and plans to double the number of MyCharge EV charging stations.
