A year has passed since BYD officially launched sales in Kazakhstan. The company presented its first-year results at a media brunch, which was also attended by a correspondent from Chinese Cars.

According to the statistics presented, over the year the company significantly strengthened its position in what remains a relatively new market for it. Kazakhstan has become one of the Chinese auto giant’s promising expansion destinations, with models tailored to local customer demands.

Which BYDs were bought in Kazakhstan
Since January 2025, 3,245 BYD vehicles have been sold in Kazakhstan. For a relatively new entrant to the segment, this reflects steady demand and growing buyer confidence: in January 2025 the brand ranked only 31st, but by December it had climbed to 11th.

This momentum reflects not only an expanded model offering but also a broader increase in Kazakhstani car buyers’ interest in modern technologies – electric vehicles and hybrid powertrains. Roughly half of the BYDs sold are fully electric, while the other half are hybrids. This shows the market is developing in two directions at once: some buyers are already prepared to switch to EVs, while others choose hybrids as a more versatile solution with familiar range and reduced reliance on charging infrastructure.

BYD Song Plus DM-i Hybrid Crossover in Kazakhstan

The most in-demand BYD model in Kazakhstan over the past year was the Song Plus DM-i hybrid crossover, with 1,543 units sold. This result is largely explained by a successful combination of hybrid powertrain efficiency, the practical family-SUV format, and strong buyer interest in extended-range models, especially given Kazakhstan’s distances.

BYD Yuan Up Electric Crossover in Kazakhstan

Second place went to the compact electric crossover Yuan Up, with 872 EVs sold. It is important to note that the model only officially went on sale in June 2025, meaning it achieved this notable result in a relatively short period. This points to strong demand for affordable urban electric crossovers and to Yuan Up’s good potential in 2026, when it will be on the market for a full year.

Rounding out the top three most popular BYD models in Kazakhstan is the Song Plus EV, the fully electric version of the crossover. Its sales totaled 609 vehicles.

Dealers and Service

BYD’s Current Model Lineup in Kazakhstan

At the same time, the company is developing its service infrastructure in Kazakhstan. According to BYD, 6,162 owners have already visited service centers. This includes not only officially sold vehicles but also cars imported by grey dealers. As the brand’s fleet grows, BYD is preparing for increased service load: in 2026, capacity is planned to expand to around 20,000 vehicles.

The spare-parts inventory is also being increased. The number of unique parts is to rise to 6,000 SKUs, up from around 2,150 previously. Parts will be available not only for official vehicles but partly for other cars as well.

The dealer network also continues to expand. In January 2025, the first two BYD dealerships opened in Almaty, and by January 2026 their number had reached 20 across Kazakhstan. During 2026, the company plans to grow the network to 30 dealers, which should provide broader coverage and brand accessibility in the regions.

New Models in Kazakhstan in 2026

In 2025, BYD’s model lineup in the Kazakhstani market included six vehicles covering several key segments. For Kazakhstan, the Flagship version will be available, capable of traveling up to 120 km on electric power alone, making the model especially attractive for city trips. The Seal 6 has been adapted from the outset to local operating conditions: Russian- and Kazakh-language interfaces, a winter package, and full local-market tuning are provided.

BYD Atto 8

Plus Denza, with Fang Cheng Bao Models

At the same time, BYD is strengthening its presence in the higher price segment. In mid-summer 2026, the Denza brand, created in 2010 as a joint project between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, is due to enter the Kazakhstani market. The companies’ cooperation began on March 1, 2010, but in September 2024 Mercedes-Benz officially exited the venture, and Denza became part of BYD’s structure.

BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 5 Crossover will come to Kazakhstan under the Denza brand

Denza is expected to launch in Kazakhstan with the Bao 5 and Bao 8 models. These vehicles are already known on the local grey market as the Leopard 5 and Leopard 8 from the Fang Cheng Bao brand, which is also part of BYD’s structure in the Chinese market. Unofficially imported vehicles come with a number of limitations, however, including no access to the brand’s proprietary app and no full manufacturer support.
