Electric vehicles are no longer a futuristic novelty; they are a real part of the urban ecosystems of Kazakhstan’s major cities. On the roads, new energy vehicles (NEVs) are increasingly common — from plug-in hybrids to fully electric models. In 2025, BYD is leading sales nationwide — the largest manufacturer of hybrid and electric vehicles, highly regarded by Kazakhstanis, as well as by clean-vehicle advocates in more than 100 countries worldwide.
According to BYD Group, in the first ten months of 2025, the brand’s global sales totaled more than 3.7 million units — up almost 14% year-on-year. BYD delivered 785,103 vehicles to various markets between January and October of this year.

— And what are the brand’s sales results in Kazakhstan? — That was the question the editorial team of Chinese Automobiles put to the official distributor.
Anton Kushch, BYD Director in Kazakhstan: We launched sales in January 2025, and over 10 months official dealers sold 2,327 vehicles, including 1,190 pure EVs and 1,137 hybrids. Today, BYD’s share in the NEV segment is 75%.
In October, 529 vehicles were sold across 11 cities of the country. BYD’s average monthly sales growth in Kazakhstan over the first ten months was 25%. Such rapid growth for a brand that has only just entered the market is a sign of buyer openness and trust. Note that this is not the familiar ICE vehicle, but a new electric or hybrid proposition for Kazakhstanis. It usually takes brands years to earn market recognition; we have achieved it in a matter of months.
In our first year, we opened 18 dealerships that officially represent BYD vehicles and provide after-sales services in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar, Uralsk, Aktobe, Atyrau, Aktau, and Kokshetau. By the end of 2025, we plan to open dealerships in Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semey.

Based on data from the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (ҚАО) on official dealer sales from January to October 2025.
— What do you believe drives Kazakhstanis to choose BYD when considering an eco-friendly vehicle?
Anton Kushch: BYD’s global leadership in NEVs, its advanced technologies, and the expertise of BYD dealers in Kazakhstan all contribute positively to this growth. From customer feedback, we understand that the Astana Motors name is also a major advantage: many Kazakhstanis know it and trust the company’s experience.
In addition, spare parts availability is important to customers. We strive to ensure that dealer operations run smoothly and that customers do not face long waits for rare components from the factories. Core spare parts must always be in stock, which is possible thanks to BYD’s independence from external component suppliers. In addition to its own unique battery, BYD Group independently produces more than 90% of automotive components and even energy. This has a positive effect on vehicle pricing, and the manufacturer delivers an optimal price-to-quality ratio for its vehicles.
— Electric vehicles are still not fully understood by mainstream buyers in Kazakhstan, and there are various safety-related concerns. What does that safety depend on?
Anton Kushch: Yes, the first thing that matters to a car buyer is safety. Most people interested in EVs or hybrids choose BYD models, and this decision is often linked to the Blade Battery that powers our vehicles.
The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery contains no cobalt, is not prone to overheating, and retains capacity even in extreme temperatures; it is therefore recognized as the safest and most durable battery in the world.
For the BYD Blade Battery, the manufacturer offers an 8-year or 150,000 km warranty — the longest warranty coverage compared with other brands.

— Which BYD models do official dealers in Kazakhstan offer today?
Anton Kushch: Today we offer the BYD SONG PLUS EV, YUAN UP, HAN, and SEALION 7 electric models, as well as the BYD SONG PLUS DM-i plug-in hybrid. By the end of the year, we plan to launch the Chazor DM-i mid-size hybrid sedan. Many customers are already asking about it and awaiting its arrival.
— Thank you for the information, Anton. We will continue to follow the growing popularity of the BYD brand in Kazakhstan with interest.
